Carno

1-1

Knighton Town

Sat 18th Feb- Spar Mid Wales League

Well you had to see this game to believe what was going on perhaps some poor decisions by the match officials is all I will say. The Town started off real well and had several chances before we broke again and Sam Williams was through on goal and the keeper brought him down in the box and a penalty awarded. Up steps Conner Bird and Town go one up and they was play well then things change a bit Carno went to break through and Coz went for a tackle and brought the lad down the ref went to him as he went to talk to him the linesman shouted last man so the ref gave him a straight red that was out of order cos he was not the last man so HT 1 0 to the Town The 2nd half got under way and the town was still doing well then we had our 2nd man sent off so it was going to be a hard battle for the robins but they kept the battle going and some very good saves from our keeper to keep us in the game then we lost another player Jamie had to go off with a nasty cut to the head then on the 88th min Carno scored witch was a doubt full goal by looking at adzy shirt but our robins never gave up and and battle very hard to hang on for a draw so very well done lads a very good point up there with 8 men.

A good day for football people think that clubs at the bottom of the table are easy games well they are not. Well the town today was right up for this game right from the start and played some nice football and it paid off with Conner Bird making it 1-0. A nice early goal to settle any side then the Robins played some good passing football and pressure led to a 2nd goal from Sam Williams. They kept Montgomery on the back foot and from a corner there was Ieuen Crowe with a nice little header 3-0 to the town. Just before half time Conner broke through and was brought down in the box a pen was awarded up step Conner 4-0 to the Town at half time.

The 2nd Half started and the town yet again dominated the 2nd half and could of gone a lot further ahead with chances missed. But the good thing was today how the whole team played it was good football today very well done lads lets hope it continues.

On 85 minutes town should of equalised with Mark Jones outpacing the Rhayader back line but lobbed his effort over the stranded GK but landed on top of the net in what was a great chance . Carno

3-0

Knighton Town

Sat 10th Sep - FAW Cup 2nd Qualifying Round,
Ty Brith Field, Carno Community Centre, Carno.

The Robins bowed on the FAW Cup at the first attempt. They were much the better footballing side but without any of our four recognised strikers available due to injury. This showed as they couldn't find the net with the crossbar dening us on four occasions and three cleared off the line! Carno had three shots and in clinical fashion scored three goals leaving all the team stunned at how they hadn't got something from the game for their good play.  It really does seem like lady luck is against us but we will dust ourselves down and ride the storm out starting at Rhayader this Wednesday said manger Adam Worton.

Team: 1 Danny Bird, 2 Robbie Steele, 3 Adam Farmer, 4 Dewi Allen, 5 Chris Roff, 6 Adam Worton, 7 Harry Worton, 8 Danny Ives, 9 Joel Layton, 10 Billy Hyett, 11 Corin Jones.

Churchstoke

2-0

Knighton Town

Sat Sep 3rd - FAW Trophy 2nd Round
Camlad Park, Churchstoke.

Knighton went to Churchstoke hoping for a win after a disappointing result in the local derby against Llandrindod. Unfortunately the Robins injury ravaged squad saw them go down 2-0 in a very physical scrappy game. The Robins went behind after 32 minutes with a tap in. Minutes lates the Robins thought they had equalised when Adam Worton beat the onrushing goalkeeper to flick the ball over him into the net. Unfortunately it was ruled out and possibly the main turning point in the game. In a similar tight battle in the second half Churchstoke clinched the win when they were given a penalty on 80 minutes. Stuart Turpin guessed the right way but couldn't make the save and it ended 2-0 to Churchstoke and The Robins were out this seasons FAW Trophy.

Team: 1 Stuart Turpin, 2 Corin Jones, 3 Robbie Steele, 4 Dewi Allen, 5 Chris Roff, 6 Joel Laytons, 7 Max Lewis, 8 Danny Ives, 9 Adam Worton, 10 Sam Williams, 11 Justin Davies

Machynlleth

Sat 20th August - Spar Mid Wales League
at Bryn-y-Castell Showground, Knighton.

Town went into the game again having to shuffle the starting XI with Connor Bird, Joel Layton, Micheal Watkins, Nick Mumby and Stuart Turpin all missing the game. Town started the game on the front foot with Sam Williams having the best chance from an Adam Farmer cross but his header missed the target. Town were then undone with a ball over the top which the right winger finished well with a very good lob. Town were soon back on level terms Robbie Steele put a great cross into the box that Mark Jones powered home with his head. The second goal wasn't long in coming player manager Adam Worton carried the ball out from the back with no one closing him down he finished a superb effort from 30 yards out to give us the lead. The third goal came after Adam Wortons corner was cleared Sam Williams did well to get the ball back to Worton who then delivered a superb cross that Danny Ives guided in with a superb header into the bottom corner. The 4th goal came on the 40 min mark Adam Wortons free kick bounced around in the penalty area before Chris Roff hooked the ball home. 4-1 the HT score. The second half saw Town content to sit on the lead they had got with Machynlleth happy to also try and prevent any further goals. Town did have chances and missed a few to increase the score but could quite finish them off with Adie Jones and Robbie Steele both striking the goal framne but the final score finished Town 4-1 Mach.

Knighton Town

2-1

Carno
Tue 16th August - Spar Mid Wales League
at Bryn-y-Castell Showground, Knighton.

A goal scored by Mark Jones with  an outstanding lob in the 1st half was the highlight in a real tight first half with not much else to report. In the second half Sam Williams double the Robins advantage with a close range finish early in the second half. Knighton then tightened up and defended well but conceded with 5 mins left with veteran Lee Sutton putting into his own goal after a great free kick into the box. None the less the Knighton backline stood their ground and held on to take their first 3 points on the campaign.

Hay St. Mary's

2-0

Knighton Town
Wed 10th August - Spar Mid Wales League
at Forest Road, Hay on Wye.

Town went into the game missing last seasons top scorer Connor Bird injured and end of season award winner Danny Ives injured and Robbie Steele away with work commitments. Town had to shuffle there pack the game started with both sides testing each other out without really creating much with both side playing a lot of long balls. Hay found themselves ahead on the 35 minute mark after a corner was poorly defended and the ball trickled over the line. The Robins were working hard but with no real quality. Hay extended there lead just before half time with a long range effort that beat Stuart Turpin in the home goal. The Robins started the second half much better and were on top for the majority of the second half Adam Farmer putting in a couple of excellent balls that somehow missed everyone in the middle. The real talking point came when Sam Williams beat his man in the box but was hauled down for a certain penalty but to everyone's disbelief it wasn't given Mark Jones then had a half chance that was blocked and Town then had numerous corners which were cleared away. Adam Worton found himself with a good opportunity from Mark Jones cross but couldn't find the target. A disappointing night for the Robins who never really got going to the standard they know they can play at but have a very quick chance to turn things around as they face Berriew at home on Friday 6:45pm Kick off.

Team Line Up: 1 Stuart Turpin, 2 Michael Watkins, 3 Corin Jones, 4 Dewi Allen, 5 Chris Roff, 6 Adam Worton, 7 Joel Layton, 8 Adam Farmer, 9 Adrian Jones, 10 Sam Williams, 11 Mark Jones,

Knighton Town XI

4-1

Newbridge
Sat 30th July - Friendly
at Bryn-y-Castell Showground, Knighton.

A mixture of firsts and reserves took to field against Newbridge on Wye, The Robins XI controlled a lot of the game and took the lead in the 14th minute when Robbie Steele's header looped over the Newbridge keeper into the net. Minutes later it should of been 2 when Mark Jones race through one on one with the keeper in which he rounded the keeper and pass the ball into an empty net so it looked but some fantastic defending saw a remarkable clearance off the line. On 29 minutes Robbie Steele was through on goal in the penalty area, the defender came lounging in and the referee pointed to the spot. Connor Bird stepped up and blasted the penalty into the bottom right corner to put Knighton 2 up. On 40 minutes a good strike from a Newbridge player brought the game back to 2-1 and thats how the first half ended.

The second half saw a number of substitutes enter the field and the game became scrappy with the Robins in control, On 70 minutes from a Corin Jones corner Adam Farmer guided a powerful looping header back across goal into the net to make it 3-1. The Robins were getting a lot of joy from free kicks down the left wing with new reserve manager Tom Gibbs making an appearance causing the Newbridge defence problems. Knighton sealed their 4th on 88 minutes when Mark Jones burst through the centre into the penalty area and unselfishly squared the ball to Connor Bird who slotted home under the advancing goal keeper to make the final score Knighton 4-1 Newbridge.

Robins Line Up: Undisclosed. Goalscorers: Robbie Steele, Conner Bird(2), Adam Farmer.

But Bishops Castle grabbed an unlikely equaliser from a well taken header midway through the first half. Town were soon ahead again from another corner with Adam Farmer heading home. The second half began and Connor Bird grabbed a goal after good pressure saw him round the keeper and slot home he soon grabbed his second after good work by Mark Jones who crossed low for Bird to finish Jones soon after grabbed his second of the match with a confident finish . Town again put in a good display and look to have taken off where they left off last season with plenty of goals and little going in at the other end .

Lee Sutton steps up as assistant manager

Veteran all round player Lee Sutton as become Adam Worton's  number 2 for the 2016-17 Mid Wales League campaign. Sutton still playing at 41 has an incredible amount of playing experience having previously played for a variety of Mid Wales Clubs including winning the Mid Wales League with both Presteigne and Llandrindod said he wanted most of all to win it again with his home town club and was most disappointed to miss out last season by just a point to Penrhyncoch. Sutton hopes that in a player coaching role he can put some valuable insight into the team and help Adam Worton's men go one better and win the championship this time around.

Hereford Lads Club

Sat 9th July - Friendly

Town made had there first competitive pre season action versus Hereford Lads Club a side who got promoted last season into the West Midlands League Division One. Town came into the game on 35 with Comnor Bird hitting the post and on 40 minutes went ahead with a good long ball by Dewi Allen found Mark Jones out wide who got in behind the Lads Club back line to stretch a leg to fire a ball across the box for Connor Bird to first hit a post but react well to slam home a rebound. The second half Saw the game become more open with both side pushing hard Ian Havard made a couple of decent saves.
