ADAM WORTON NAMED MID WALES LEAGUE PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Knighton's player manager Adam Worton has been name Spar Mid Wales League player of the year. This is Adam's 3rd year as Knighton's player manager and its a remarkable achievement.  Its some consilation as the club narrowly missed out on winning the league and got to the Semi finals of the league cup also.

Spar Mid Wales League Cup Semi final - Sat 16th April 2016
Knighton Town 2-2 Hay St. Mary's
(after extra time, Hay St' Mary's won 4-2 on penalties)

Knighton bowed out of the Mid Wales League Cup on 4-2 penalties against Hay St. Mary's with the score at 2-2 after extra time. An even first 15 minutes saw both team cancel each other out, the first chance fell to Knighton with Connor Bird in the 15th minute when he turned and hit a shot, Hay keeper Steve Jones tipping it around the post. Hay took the lead when Brendan Hackett found Rob Snedden who crossed into the box to the oncoming Matt James, the midfielder made no mistake from close range in the 21st minute. The lead lasted four minutes when a replica goal was scored by Knighton, this time Bird crossed from the right hand side who found Sam Williams who scored from close range. Connor Bird had another effort saved not long after the equaliser and Hay's Steve Goodwin's missing a header at the other end. Half time the teams went in at 1 each.

In the second half a Williams had an effort taking deflection with Hay's keeper caught out and the ball went wide. Nick Cadwallader saved header from Matt Croose off a corner. Knighton piled on the pressure with corners and free kicks but the Hay defence was resilient and at full time it was still level.
In extra time Knighton piled more pressure on Hay, from a corner substitute Mark Jones shot was blocked but Danny Ives managed to put the ball over the line as Knighton took the lead. The Robins went to look for a third but Hay who had threatened to counter throughout the game broke away with Adi Lawford winning a corner. With minutes to play from a Hay corner Matt Croose won a header which found Lawford who flicked the ball into the top top corner for the equaliser. The Robins from the restart wanted to end the game without going to penalties and Bird was through on goal but some last minute interceptions halted Knighton's pressure. An after extra time it finished 2-2 and on to spot kicks.

Knighton took the first penalty and this is how it unfolded. Connor Bird(scored) 1-0 Knighton, Rob Snedden(scored) 1-1, Mark Jones(scored) 2-1, Brendan Hackett(scored) 2-2, Sam Williams(missed) 2-2, Jack Biggs(scored) 2-3 , Gareth Mansell(saved) 2-3, Jordan Baker(scored) 2-4.

Knighton Town 2-1 Llanrhaeadr

Town started the game really well knowing only a win would do and dominated all the early possession and seeing numerous corners come and go with the cross bar saving Llanrhaeadr on more than one occasion . Town were then caught on the break on 40 minutes with the lanrheader winger finishing well from 18yards . The second half began with Town on top once more but the ball just wouldn't go in . Following an Adam Worton corner Adam Farmer hit the bar with Danny Ives meeting the follow up but also hitting the bar . Sam Williams then got us back on terms with a fine strike that gave the keeper no chance as it flew into the top corner . Five minutes to go the news was the score in the other game was 0-0 and Town would be crowned champions of the scores stayed the same two minutes from time however there was heartbreak as there was a goal in the other game that would see us lose out by a single point as the referee blew the whistle , quite a remarkable season and one the Town can be proud of after this being there first season back in the league and the future looks very bright at Bryn-y-castell.

Radnorshire Cup Semi Final - Wed 13th April 2016
Knighton Town 0-2 Rhayader Town

Town went into the game without regulars Gareth Mansell, Chris Roff and Robbie Steele due to the 20 miles radius rule in the competition. The game started fairly even but on 10 minutes a mix up in communication between GK Dave Exall and player manager Adam Worton allowed the Rhayader forward to nip in and toe the ball in. Town never really found a foot hold in the game and a lot of passes went wayward and opportunities wasted as the Rhayader backline defended robustly with some particularly heavy tackles going in that should of been dealt with better by the referee. Town shipped another poor goal on 20 minutes after a long ball into the box was hooked back in and poor marking allowed the Rhayader striker to take his chance from close range . Half time came and Town introduced from the bench the fit again Mark Jones and veteran Lee Sutton Town did come out and give it a go second half and were on top for most of the half and had some good chances but couldn't find the net . Mark Jones was having a good impact after his introduction . Adam Farmer saw his header saved off the line late on from a corner . The full time whistle went in what wasn't a great spectacle for the neutral with Town putting in a very disappointing showing and go out of the areas local league cup in the process.

Town went into the game without Influential midfield player Gareth Mansell with a viral infection and Mark Jones with a hamstring. The game kicked off in sunny conditions Waterloo made there plan known from the off sticking ten men behind the ball and defending deep to try and stifle the leagues top scorers. Town had a few good opportunities in good areas that nobody could get the telling touch on. Waterloo had one chance with Dave Exall saving with his legs. Town then forced numerous corners with some good last ditch defending and goalkeeping by Waterloo. Town went ahead on 30 minutes when Adam Worton's dangerous free kick was flicked home by Danny Ives. The remainder of the half was much the same with Town doing all the running but finding it hard going against a resolute Waterloo defence. Half time 1-0.

The Second half began much the same with Town enjoying all the possession. Connor Bird had a great chance to increase the lead when played in by Danny Ives the keeper however made a good save with Bird clean through. The remaining 30 mins Town forced a few corners which came to nothing. Sam Williams  had the last big opportunity but the keeper saved his well struck shot well. Llanrhaeadr 0
-4 Knighton Town

Town went into a second fixture in three days and were without the unavailable Danny Ives and injured Mark Jones. Speedy winger Adey Jones made his first start since Xmas. Town started the game playing up hill and into a string head wind and had to be on there guard as Llanrhaeadr

started strongly the Knighton rearguard stood firm though with Exall making a good save on one occasion. Town gradually grew into the game and found themselves ahead in the 20th minute Adam Farmer delivering a great cross which Connor Bird met with a superb header. Town were now on top and Connor Bird struck at goal only to be denied by the cross bar. Sam Williams then had a good chance when he lobbed the keeper but couldn't find the net with the keeper stranded. HT 1-0.

Town came out of the traps second half and soon had a penalty when Sam Williams was bought down when in on goal. Connor Bird stepped up but his penalty was saved with Sam Williams following up to knock in the rebound. Williams was in the scoresheet again five minutes later when player manager Adam Worton delivered and excellent free kick that Williams was on hand to fire home. Llanrhaeadr

then went down to 10 men minutes later as frustrations grew with Connor Bird being hacked down when breaking free . Robbie Steele topped things off after more good work from Bird released him and he rounded the GK before tapping home. Spar Mid Wales League Division 1  - Sat 19th March 2016
Knighton Town 2-1 Penrhyncoch

Town went into the game knowing that three points was a must in this top of the table clash. We started the game well and had Penrhyncoch on the back foot from the off and the pressure told as on 5 minutes we took the lead with Connor Birds pace causing havoc and he won a tackle with the GK before finishing the looping ball when it came to him. It almost got better when Corin Jones met player manager Adam Wortons corner but directed his header just over the bar. Penrhyncoch were stirred into life after this and started to get a bit more of the ball but found the Knighton defence hard to beat. A Penrhyncoch free kick was headed back across goal in there best chance of the half. Gareth Mansell then went close to doubling our lead with a superb left footed effort that the Penrhyncoch keeper produced a superb save to top it over the bar for a corner. The resulting corner from Worton was met by the head of Danny Ives but saved by the defender on the post amongst big appeals for hand ball nothing given. Danny Ives was again in on the action breaking through before being taken down for what looked a certain penalty however the referee saw otherwise . HT score 1-0.

The second half began with little goal action in the opening 15 minutes. Wide men Sam Williams and Mark Jones were working hard out wide and causing problems for the Penrhyncoch full backs. The Town defense continued to deal with any attacks thrown at them. On the 80th minute Penrhyncoch grabbed the equaliser from a corner with the Penrhyncoch sub glancing his header in via the post. Town knew they would have to dig deep with the away team now packing players behind the ball and playing for the draw. Time was running out for the Robins and with the game into injury time Connor Bird flicked a great ball into Danny Ives who drove into the box before firing a cross across goal that the defender turned into his own net in the 93rd minute which sparked wild celebrations on the pitch and sidelines. Town then saw out the remaining two minutes with no problems and the full time whistle went to a big cheer from the home fans. A superb three points for the Robins and a great football match to watch between two good footballing sides.

Ground Improvements under way

If the Robins gain promotion to the Cymru Alliance league, the club was told it needed to upgrade certain facilities. These included extending a hard standing area the full length of the pitch on the the Grand Stand side and the Town End Kop behind the goal. The Town End will also see new pitch side barriers. The Ludlow Road side where the dugouts are situated and the Castle End will not be touched unless the club was ever promoted to the Welsh Premier League. Also a new ground parimeter fence is also being constructed. Pictures of the developments can be seen below.

Knighton went to Tywyn looking to keep the promotion challenge going. The Robins started on the front foot taking the lead after just 3 minutes through Connor Bird and within 5 minutes it was 2 as Mark Jones combined well with Bird before striking into the bottom corner. Bird and Jones have now got 39 goals this season between them. Connor Bird then struck again with a fine individual goal on 15 minutes and it looked as if a rout was on. Mark Jones got his second and The Robins 4th when his free kick found the top corner. The fifth saw Jones grabb his hat trick from Adam Worton's corner. Aberaeron 1-6 Knighton Town

Town welcomed back player manager Adam Worton fellow centre half Chris Roff and Jonny Samuel for the long trip to the coast. The game started in terrible conditions with the wind from the sea front blowing straight through the pitch making playing conditions very hard for both sides the first fifteen minutes passed with little action on twenty minutes Town took the lead with Adam Farmer heading home Adam Wortons corner. The lead was doubled on thirty minutes with the Aberaeron GK saving Adam Worton's free kick but Connor Bird was first to react tapping home the rebound. Town had a couple more chances to increase the lead through Bird and Mark Jones the half time score 2-0. The second half began and Aberaeron pulled one back from a deflected free kick that wrong footed Exall in the town goal. Town found an immediate reply with Connor Bird smashing a volley home from 18 yards. The fourth goal wasn't long after with Adam Farmer heading Home from Adam Wortons free kick. And the fifth goal came from a good team move involving Worton, Williams and Jon Samuel who supplied the cross for Bird to net an excellent hat trick goal. The sixth and final goal came at the end with Town surviving a scare in there own box and breaking away at pace with Bird playing a lovley pass for strike partner Jones to get in on the act with a good finish when in one on one. Penrhyncoch 2-0 Knighton Town

Town went into the top of the table clash in not ideal circumstances missing four regular starters. Town started the game well and were on top for the opening twenty five minutes with Connor Bird and Sam Williams having a couple of half chances. The Robins then gave away a silly free kick outside the box which took a horrible deflection of the wall and into the corner of the net Town could feel hard done by worse was to come just before half time as new signing Nick Mumby was penalised for a high foot in the box and a penalty was awarded which was smashed home. Town began the second half and spent the majority of the time camped in the Penrhyncoch half with them content to sit deep and defend Connor Bird had a chance with a header but couldn't get any power on it Gareth Mansell made a couple of opportunities after being introduced. The full time whistle went in what was a game that didn't really live up to the hype with both sides cancelling each other out with Penrhyncoch making the most of the two chances given to them from Town from set pieces.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 6th February 2016
Waterloo Rovers 1-2 Knighton Town

On a damp windy afternoon in Welshpool the game kicked after being in doubt about the recent weather. Although the pitch was slightly heavy the game went ahead. Knighton started brightly forcing a couple of goal mouth scrambles in the to box in the first 10 minutes. The first good chance of the game came from and excellent long ball from Dewi Allen who found Mark Jones and he raced through with pace and purpose shooting accurately past the keeper but it lacked that bit of extra power and was cleared off the line. The Robins fell behind on 26 minutes when a sloppy clearence followed by a defensive mix up let in Waterloo who took full advantage and took the lead. Immediately from the restart infact less than 10 seconds the scores where level Sam Williams fed the ball to Mark Jones who must have seen the Waterloo keeper off his line and from virtually just right of the centre circle unleased and unstoppable screamer over the keeper into the top right hand corner of the goal. Jones was becoming a nuisance troubling the Waterloo defence time and again and won a free kick 25 yards out. Jones took the free kick which brought a good save from the keeper. A good ball by Dewi Allen fed Sam Williams down the left, he crossed for Oliver Richards who headed narrowly wide. Some good play again down the wing saw a ball into the box latched onto by Mark Jones who turned and shot from 15 yards out which took a deflection of a Waterloo defender into the bottom right corner. At 2-1 with the half ending Knighton were gunning for more with Gareth Watkins bringing a solid stop by the keeper from 25 yards. Half Time 2-1.

The second half started with Waterloo on the front foot with plenty of possession but nothing to trouble Dave Exall in the Robins goal. Tackles throughout the game were hard and it was certainly a scrap for possession with some needless fouls also along with a bit of play acting. Knighton then took control of the game Mark Jones combining a neat one two with Sam Williams and you would bet it was gonna be 3 but Jones blazed over. Jones then found himself free through one on one with the keeper and lobbed the keeper finding the back of the net unfortunately it was deemed offside by the linesman. Oliver Richards burst forward and hit stinging long range effort which just went wide. The pitch was begining to cut up and both team lacking the energy in the game slowed down towards the end with the final score at lot more comfortable than it suggests. Another 3 points which saw the Robins winning run now 9 and now 1 point clear as they topped the league for the first time this season.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 30th January 2016
Bow Street 0-2 Knighton Town

A good surface welcomed Knighton at Bow Street but a very strong wind also came with it. The first half began with Town playing with the wind in there favour and had Bow street penned in there own half for much of the opening twenty minutes Town missed a few good opportunities from free kicks and corners the break through came after good hold up play from Connor Bird who then played in Adam Farmer who calmly finished when in one on one with the goal keeper. The second goal wasn't long in coming Connor Bird again involved playing in Gareth Watkins who rounded the goal keeper before being hacked down by him everyone in the ground thought penalty and sending off the penalty was awarded but somehow the keeper only shown a yellow card . Connor Bird stepped up smashing the penalty home high into the roof of the net. The second half started with Town content to sit back and hit Bow street on the break Adam Farmer Connor Bird and Mark Jones all guilty of missing good chances to increase the score line. Bow Street thought they had a life line on 70 minutes when player manager Adam Worton was show a second yellow card for something that happened in the box at a stop in play and Bow street awarded a penalty the Town players were furious with the decision. Dave Exall saved well from the resulting spot kick and made another good stop minutes later to maintain Town two nil lead. Knighton Town 2-0 Welshpool Town

Town went into the game having to reshuffle there recent starting eleven with Danny Ives completing a one match suspension and Adie Jones failing to shake off an ankle injury Dan Dawson and Sam Williams came into the starting eleven. Town started the game well on a heavy surface and played some nice football on what looked a difficult surface. Town missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when Sam Williams headed over from player mannager Adam Wortons corner. Welshpool tried to hit town on the counter but the defence dealt with everything that was asked of them . The first goal came after good work from Connor Bird and Mark Jones making the space for Dewi Allen to fire the ball home from the edge of the box. Five minutes later and it was two with the Welshpool defender failing to clear his lines and Sam Williams nipped in and found the back of the net. Town had another couple of chances to make it three thanks to a couple of good saves from the Welshpool keeper. The second half began with Town on the back foot and Welshpool throwing bodies forward but the Town backline rarely looked troubled and dealt with any balls over the top well and Dave Exall showed good handling when called upon Connor Bird had a great chance that he fashioned for himself but couldn't find the target. Sam Williams had another good effort that shaved the cross bar the last chance fell to sub Lee sutton who failed to hit the target when in one on one with the goal keeper the full time whistle went and Town celebrated an excellent three points and a league double over Welshpool moving them up to second place in the table and in the process sealing there eighth league win on the trot and there eighth clean sheet in a row.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 9th January 2016
Knighton Town 2-0 Llandrindod Wells

Town went into the game without long term injuries to Gareth Mansell and Robbie Steele. The game began on a very heavy pitch the Robins started the game well and had Llandrindod pegged back in there own half from the off. Connor Bird and Adie Jones both had chances to put the Robins ahead but couldn't find the target. Danny Ives had the ball in the net after Llandrindod keeper Joe Prosser spilled player manager Adam Worton's free kick but the linesman however over ruled the ref claiming Prosser had been impeded. The goal did come at the next set piece with Worton putting an excellent ball into the area that Danny Ives got up very well for and powered his header beyond the keeper. The second goal ca,e via another set piece this time Mark Jones stepped up with the ball in shooting range and made no mistake with an outstanding effort that flew into Prossers top corner . Llandod then had there only chance of the half with the strikers shot getting a deflection over Dave Exall before striking the post. 2-0 HT the second half began and soon came alive as goal scorer Danny Ives was given his marching orders for a second yellow card on 50 minutes. Town still looked the stronger side even with a man less and top scorer Connor Bird had two good chances and then Mark Jones missed a great chance to make it three. The town back line then saw out the remainder of the game dealing with a lot of long balls into the box that were easily dealt with. The full time whistle went with The robins moving within two points of the top of the table into fourth place and with a seventh clean sheet in a row in the league.

Central Wales F.A. Challenge Cup Round 3 - Sat 2nd January 2016
Knighton Town 0-5 Guilsfield
*Played at Latham Park, Newtown.

The Robins started the game really well on the 4G surface as the game was switched to Newtown's Latham Park  due to a waterlogged Bryn-y-Castell and should of gone ahead in the 5th minute with Sam Williams just failing to connect on Mark Jones's cross. Town were then caught with a sucker punch after dominating the opening ten minutes with a long range strike somehow beating Dave Exall. Town then more than held there own against there higher graded opponents and looked to be heading into the break 1-0 down but right on half time possession was given away and Guilsfield broke and finished clinically to make it 2-0 at half time which was harsh on the Robins. The second half began and town pushed hard in the opening spell to try and find a way back into the game but were again undone on the break as Guilsfied wide man stole in to finish well from 18 yards out. The Robins then had a few corners and set pieces that they couldn't get a telling touch on. Guilsfield then broke again Belfry the striker was tripped in the box with the ref pointing to the spot which was duly converted. The 5th goal was a mix up between the defence which was slotted home to make the score line look very harsh on the Robins.

Knighton Town 3-0 Montgomery Town

A very heavy pitch greeted both sides as the game got underway Town dominated the game from start to finish with the visitors not having a shot in the 90 minutes. Connor Bird put the Robins ahead after 15 minutes with a great turn and shot from 20 yards. Adie Jones added another straight after the break beating two men out wide before firing an unstoppable effort from all of 25 yards. Dewi Allen grabbed the third from Adam Wortons corner. The Robins then wasted countless more chances to add to there lead with Sam Williams guilty of missing a couple of good opportunities. Another good three points in the bag as the Robins excellent season keeps on moving within the summit of the table well in there sights now with games in hand.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 5th December 2015
Welshpool Town 0-4 Knighton Town

Knighton travelled to Welshpool Town looking to take full advantage of their recent form in very blustery conditions at The Maes Y Dre Recreation Ground. The Robins went close on several occasions with Lee Sutton testing the Welshpool keeper from a free kick before nice work from Ade Jones fed his brother Mark Jones to put Knighton 1-0 up with his 12th goal of the season. The Robins had  a goal disallowed when it looked as if the Welshpool keeper fumbled the ball before being turned in but the referee gave a free kick instead for a foul. Welshpool came closest to scoring from a from a free kick of the own but Exall in the Knighton goal was equal to it. Half time 1-0. The second half continued in the same vain with Knighton looking dangerous every time they went forward and indeed doubled there lead with a goal of the season contender from Gareth Watkins making just his second start of the season. Knighton then had a penalty in which up stepped Connor Bird to score his 12th goal of the season and it wasn't long before Bird nipped in from cross to score his second of the game. Late on Dave Exall made two excellent saves to keep a clean sheet as Welshpool tried to find a concilation goal. Final score 4-0 to the Robins and another 3 points.

Spar Mid Wales League Cup 2nd Round - Sat 28th November 2015
Penybont United 2-8 Knighton Town

The game started in horrendous conditions on a sodden pitch and Town went behind after three minutes after a low cross was turned into the net. Town responded not long after with Mark Jones netting a free kick. We went further ahead minutes later when Connor Bird was hauled down when through on goal with the defender being shown a deserved red card. Bird slotted the penalty. Bird got his second of the game minutes later from player manager Adam Wortons corner. The second half began with the pitch condition getting worse and making any passing football almost impossible Mark Jones soon grabbed his second of the afternoon heading over the Penybont keeper. Connor Bird grabbed his hat-trick minutes later with the goal of the game from 20 yards out leaving the keeper no chance. Mark Jones then made it six after a good cross from Lee Sutton was headed home. The seventh then came direct from Stuart Turpins goal kick which the defender could only head past his gk. The eighth goal was scored by Chris Roff with superb header from Adam Wortons Corner. Penybont did grab a consolation with a near identical goal to the forst they scored a low cross into the area finished well by the Penybont striker. Another big win for the Robins on a very tough pitch with the win being the main thing and into the next round of the league cup.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 21st November 2015
Knighton Town 6-0 Llanidloes Town

Town went into the clash knowing it would be a tough game against last seasons relegated Cymru Alliance team Llanidloes Town. We went into the fixture missing three first team regulars in Robbie Steele Sam Williams injured and Corrin Jones suspended . Few could of written a better start for the Town Adie Jones burst forwards outpacing the Llanidloes back line before being hauled down for what looked a straight red however the ref gave a yellow and a free kick a minute later the same player got his marching orders for hauling down Connor bird in the box. The penalty was taken by Bird and coolly slotted home. Town played some excellent football after this and a shell shocked Llanidloes were chasing shadows. Connor Bird then hit the bar with a header which Adam Farmer was on hand to tap in the rebound. Adie Jones was causing the Llanidloes back line problems all half with some excellent balls in the box and as the half time whistle blew to applause from the home fans everyone was wondering how Town wernt further ahead. The second half began with Town straight back in control with again some excellent football on show from the hosts a nice move ended up with Mark Jones heading the ball back for Connor Bird to volley home his second of the afternoon. Adie Jones was next to get in on the act beating his man before firing a cracking drive into the top corner. The next goal was a goal of the season contender with some excellent passing between the midfield of Mansell And Ives resulted in Bird recovering the ball before playing in Mark Jones who slotted home. The sixth goal Bird finished himself off a hat trick turning and shooting past the keeper from 18 yards out. The full time whistle went 10 minutes later to big applause from the home support. Knighton 6-0 Llanidloes and the first six point return of the season.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 7th November 2015
Knighton Town 1-0 Carno

The game kicked off on a very heavy surface after a lot of rain. With Town looking to end visiting Carno's six match winning run. Town started the game on the front foot and dominated the early possession playing some nice football in the process with Connor Bird and Adie Jones both looking lively for the home team. Town found themselves in some very good positions and caused the Carno defence a lot of problems but couldn't get the telling touch. Adam Farmer will feel he should of done better from with a left foot volley from  a dangerous Adam Wortons set piece. A good ball from Gareth Mansell then found Sam Williams down the right hand side who worked himself a shooting opportunity but didn't trouble the Carno goal keeper. Town then nearly got caught with a sucker punch as Carno had there first effort after a quick break down field resulting in there striker nicking the ball past Dave Exall but not the post. 0-0 the half time score.

Carno started the second half much and had a couple of corners which the Town back line coped well with . On 65 minutes a long ball forward by Adam Worton was latched onto by Connor Bird who shrugged his marker off before supplying a great finish into the top corner to put the Robins deservedly 1-0 up. Town continued to create with Sam Williams and Connor Bird causing problems and Danny Ives putting in a good shift in the middle but couldn't add to score. The Town back line saw out the rest of the game after a barrage of long balls. Carno did have a late penalty shout after Dewi Allen came together with a Carno player in the box but referee Steve Fisher waved away the protests and Town collected a vital three point.

Central Wales F.A. Cup 3rd Round Draw

Knighton have been handed another tough fixture in cup competition and again against Cymru Alliance League opposition. Knighton will host Guilsfield on January 2nd.

JD Welsh Cup 2nd Round - Sat 31st October 2015
Holywell Town 6-3 Knighton Town

Town arrived to a good setup at Holywell Town with a nice surface to play on at the Cymru Alliance League high flyers. Town went into the game without the suspended Robbie Steele and Mark Jones. The game kicked off with the hosts settling into there stride early with some nice passing moves with the Robins holding there own until the 17th minute when Holywell went ahead when a deep cross to the back post was volleyed home by the striker. 5 minutes later and it was two as another deep cross was headed back across goal and despite Dave Exall getting a good hand on it the ball trickled over the line. Town then started to get into the game causing the Holywell defence problems with Connor Bird making some good runs. Holywell could of been reduced to 10 men when it seemed a punch was thrown a midfielder Danny Ives but the referee did not notice it. Town then got themselves back in the game when a good Adam Worton free kick was saved but instinctively Connor Bird was on hand to drill home the rebound. Five minutes before half time Town then let in two further goals in the closing minutes which they would be disappointed with. The second half began with Holywell still impressing with some good football with Town working hand to keep them at bay, but a great finish by the Holywell forward made it 5 before Town got another back straight after with Sam Williams making good ground down the left before crossing for strike partner Bird who made no mistake with the finish. Town then had a spell of pressure on the Holywell defence, with Adam Worton free kicks testing the home side. the first a dangerous whipped ball that Adam Farmer got a flick on and the keeper saved with his legs but Town couldn't convert the scramble. The other was another good ball into the area which Gareth Mansell will be disappointed he couldn't converted. Finally a dangerous ball into the box which resulted in Sam Williams being hauled down amd a penalty. Connor Bird stepped up for his hat-trick and duly converted. 5-3 now the score in an end to end game being played at a terrific pace. In the final few 5 minutes Corin Jones was sent off for something he said to the official. Holywell got there 6th goal which was a bit harsh on the Town who went out of the Welsh Cup but can be proud of there efforts in doing what no other side has done to Holywell this season in scoring 3 goals at Halkyn Road. Its now back to domestic league duty at home to Carno on Saturday with a 2:15 kick off.

Adam Worton with thoughts on this weeks huge Welsh Cup game at Holywell Town

On Saturday is the biggest game Knighton Town have had in cup competition since we lost to then Welsh champions Barry Town in 1997. Holywell Town are a very good footballing side playing in the Cymru Alliance League just one step below the Welsh Premier league but only one step above us. They are currently at the top end of their league so we are under no illusions what a tough task the game will be for us on Saturday, but the boys are really looking forward to the challenge. We have players though who have experience playing at that level and even couple who have played in The Welsh Premier and again that experience will be vital against a well organised Holywell team. The pressure will be off us as we start the game as under dogs I know we have lads in our squad that have quality and pace to hurt any team in that league so if we can catch them on a slight off day then we will have a great chance of causing a shock. The boys will really enjoy playing in front of a big crowd and hopefully we can step up to the occasion and get ourselves into that third round draw.

Radnorshire Cup Quarter Final - Sun 25th October 2015
Builth Wells 0-5 Knighton Town

Sunday saw us play in the Radnorshire Cup quarter final. Changes once again were made to the side with Gareth Mansell, Adie Jones, Mark Jones Chris Roff all absent from the side that played Friday night.  The first half started scrappy with neither side playing much football of note but Town took the lead when Connor Bird fired home inside the box and the second wast soon after as Jonny Samuel finished well from a well worked free kick . Connor Bird then grabbed his second of the game firing past the keeper from 18 yards . Builth then got reduced to ten men as a very poor challenge on Dewi Allen which warranted a red card and also meant Allen had to be substituted . The second half did produce two more goals Jonny Samuel adding his second of the game . The 5th will go down as an own goal as the defender could only direct Adam Worton free kick into his own top corner . 5-0 it finished as the Town completed a comfortable afternoons work.

Spar Mid Wales League Cup 1st Round - Fri 23rd October 2015
Presteigne Saint Andrews 0-6 Knighton Town

Town named a changed line up for this one as Adam Worton and Jason Samuel handed starts to some of the boys who hadn't featured recently and they gave the management food for though playing some superb stuff first half finding themselves 5-0 up at half time. Connor Bird, Sam Williams, Danny Ives, Mark Jones with a brace getting the goals in a very one sided first half. Thesecond half came and went with Town dominating possession and creating chances at will but couldn't add to there tally. Dewi Allen scored the 6th with a cracking header from a corner. The score line finished 6-0 in a very one sided encounter. Robins in the hat for the second round and job done.

Adam Worton with thoughts on this weekends cup games at Presteigne and Builth.

Looking ahead to the weekends action we start at neighbours Presteigne in the first round of The Spar Mid Wales League Cup on Friday night(7-30pm) which is obviously a big local derby for us and one the supporters really look forward to. We go there with confidence in the camp high after a terrific couple of month on the results front. We welcome back Adie Jones and Jack Hammond into the squad and Danny Ives returns against his former club. All were missing last weekends cup game. Robbie Steele will miss out through injury. Me and Jason will be shuffling our pack a bit for this game as we also have a game Sunday at Builth in The Radnorshire Cup, so need to keep as many fresh as we can for the two games with some boys coming in for vital minutes over the two games. We will be looking to put on a good show Friday as we didn't really turn up at Greenfield and play the way I know we can. Hopefully we can turn in a good showing over both games and progress in both cups and the lads can give me and Jason a big selection headache for the huge Welsh cup game at Holywell Town the following weekend.

FAW Trophy 3rd Round - 17th October 2015
Greenfield 3-2
*aet Knighton Town

After another long journey to North Wales the Robins started the game handing Connor Bird his first start since injury last season. The Robins started the game slowly and couldn't get their passing game going on a very narrow and bobbly surface against a robust Greenfield side. The Robins went behind under bizarre circumstances with Dave Exall barged to the ground as he collected the ball and spilled it seemed a blatant foul to every Robins players astonishment the referee waved play on and the striker tapped the ball in much to the Robins protest the goal stood. Knighton then regrouped after the goal and equaliser with Corin Jones sending a thunderbolt into the top corner from thirty yards. Half Time loomed and the Robins took the lead from Adam Worton's corner which was headed against the bar by Adam Farmer and Dewi Allen first to react and smash the ball home sending Knighton in 2-1 in front at half time. The second half began with the Robins having numerous chances to seal the game Mark Jones wasting the best of these chances which they would later regret as in the 85th minute Greenfield equalised from a corner with an excellent header. Extra time started with the the game becoming very scrappy with lots of  tackles seemingly being missed by the ref. In the tenth minute of extra time a deep cross was hit into the Robins box Dave Exall was again seemingly wiped out at the back post with the ref again waving play on and again Greenfield finished from close range. The protests once again fell on deaf ears from the man in the middle who again had failed to give what could have been considered a routine foul and perhaps even a yellow card which could of been awarded. 2nd half of extra time came and went with the Robins missing two good chances and the full time whistle came from the ref who bought an end to the contest.

Adam Worton with thoughts on FAW Trophy game at Greenfield F.C.

I'm expecting another tough test Saturday against Greenfield who sit top of there league The Lockstock Welsh Alliance League Division 2. Its the same league as Dyffryn Nantlle Vale whom we beat the last round of The Welsh Cup so we know it will be difficult. We go there with a few lads missing from the squad Danny Ives is away Adie Jones has  work commitments and Dan Dawson injured . However Gareth Mansell does return to the squad having missed the last few weeks with a knee injury. Jack Hammond will be having a run out for the reserves as he steps up his comeback from injury. We travel North in good spirits after some excellent results over the last two months I'm happy with our league position and we are on target for where I want us to be at this moment. The cup runs we are having have also been excellent which has meant we haven't played many league games however it has worked in our favour as we have managed to progress in every cup and it has given us time to get lads back up to fitness that would of otherwise missed key league matches. The FAW Trophy(formally The Welsh Intermediate Cup) is a cup we are looking to progress as its the second biggest cup competition to be involved in domestically and who knows how far we could go. however the pressure will be off us tomorrow and I will be telling the lads to go out there and enjoy the tie. This side of ours has always got goals in it and I'm happy how the defence are performing as a unit at the minute. Hopefully we can get a result and progress.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat 10th October 2015
Knighton Town 4-0 Tywyn Bryncrug

Town started the game in a sluggish fashion and reached nowhere near the heights of last weekends cup heroics. In a generally poor opening 30 mins Town got themselves ahead from a corner by Adam Worton with Mark Jones on hand to fire home through a crowded penalty area. Town wasted the ball when in good areas and couldn't increase there lead before the interval. The second half began and Town soon doubled there lead with Sam Williams being played in one on one by substitute Connor Bird and Williams made no mistake. Town then pressed hard for more goals and started playing some very good football opening the visitors up at will, Connor Bird had a great chance to increase the lead further but missed the target with a powerful header. Town did get a third good work by Bird out wide as he put a cross into the box that Adie Jones smashed home with a superb first time volley. The fourth wasn't long after as another corner by Adam Worton caused mayhem in the Tywyn box Sam Williams got the knockdown before Adie Jones smashed home his second. Town carried on putting some good moves together and keeping the ball really well to see out the remaining minutes. A big three points for the Town as we keep pace with top boys with games in hand.

Adam Worton with thoughts on tomorrows opponents Tywyn/Bryncrug

We're looking forward to finally having a home game after being away from home for nearly a month and finally turning the corner with our massive injury list with Connor Bird getting thirty minutes last weekend.  Dave Exall returns from honeymoon which is great news as we haven't had a recognised goalkeeper the last two games but Sam Williams and Jack Hammond both did well. Adie Jones returns from suspension and will be in the squad for tomorrow's game.  Glenn Tolley will also be In the squad making his return to his home town club. Gareth Mansell will be rested as a precaution from a knee injury he picked up two weeks ago but is nearing fitness again. Dan Dawson and Jack Hammond remain sidelined through long term injuries Jack is getting somewhere near now with his although did play in goal last week and Daws has a scan in two weeks time to see hows its doing. Last weekends win was very pleasing in North Wales at a tough place to go against a good side but we played some great stuff and deserved the win. Tomorrows game I expect another tough test as there are no easy games in this league however we have a very strong squad for tomorrow's game and will be aiming to put on a good show and get the three points.

Spar Mid Wales League Cup Draw

Knighton have been paired to play away at local rivals Presteigne St. Andrews who play in Spar Mid Wales League Division 2. The match will take place under the floodlights on a Friday 23rd October at 7:30pm.

Knighton Town have been handed a very tough draw in the Welsh Cup 2nd Round.

So its another trip Deeside after being drawn to play away at Holywell Town. Holywell who currently sit 3rd in The Cymru Alliance League have been only been beaten by Welsh Champions The New Saints in The Word Cup so far this season. Adam Worton says it will be a huge test, but the Robins can go there, enjoy it and give them a right go. It will also be interesting to find out actually how good this Knighton team is and with it being a cup game anything can happen.

JD Welsh Cup 1st Round - Sat 3rd October 2015
Dyffryn Nantlle Vale 1-2 Knighton Town

Knighton arrived to what was a good set up and excellent playing surface. Jack Hammond became the 6th Knighton player to play in goal this season apart from that The Robins remained mostly unchanged with Sam Williams returning to his much favoured centre forward role. Town started the game really well with the midfield and front men causing them plenty of problems. Knighton were getting lots of corners and possession and sustaining pressure on the hosts. They deservedly went ahead when Adam Worton picked out Sam Williams who beat his man playing a neat one two with Mark Jones before firing low into the bottom corner. The Robins had more chances to score after this but couldn't get the extra goal that they deserved after a very strong first half performance. Second half Knighton started surprisingly slowly with the Nantlle Vale now showing they were still in it and  levelled up the game after a long ball into the box was bundled home. Town then introduced Connor Bird for his first action since the first game of the season. Knighton then pressed on but the game became tight with some big tackles going in from both sides.  With eight minutes left town had a free kick which Adam Worton delivered into the area and substitute Oliver Richards headed it goalwards to which Adam Farmer smashed home a sweet volley to put the Robins in front. Town saw out the remaining minutes to book there place in the second round much to the delight of the excellent travelling support.

Welsh Cup 1st Round Preview

Tomorrow Knighton make there way on a 90 mile trip to North West Wales to the village of Penygroes near Caernarfon. There they will take on Dyffryn Nantlle Vale of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance League Division 2 for a place in the second round of the JD Welsh Cup. Knighton will be boosted by the return of last seasons 30 goal hit man  Connor Bird who is hoping to hit the ground running doing what he does best scoring goals. They will have to be weary of there opponents who play at the level 4 in the pyramid one below Knighton but have only lost once this season sitting 3rd in their division. Looking at the stats they seem a useful side that can score goals so The Robins will have to be aware of them when they need to defend not to mention they also have home advantage. Knighton will be looking to book a place in the 2nd Round which is something they haven't done since 1997 when they got to the quarter final loosing to then champions of Wales Barry Town.

Adam Worton with thoughts on tomorrows big Welsh Cup game.

Thoughts for tomorrow are got a good side out but know it's going to be very tough up there stepping into the unknown a bit. Glad that injuries are finally clearing up a bit, having Connor back fit for first time this season is going to be like having a new signing he will be a massive boost as I feel he is one of the best strikers in the league. Gareth Mansell has tweaked his knee so will miss tomorrow's game and Adie jones misses out through suspension. Jack Hammnond is getting back slowly after getting through his first training session on Thursday. Looking forward to the next few weeks and finally having a full strength side to pick from for the first time since last season.

Radnorshire Cup 1st Round - Sun 27th September 2015
St. Harmon 2-5 Knighton Town

A Knighton Town XI mix of first team, reserves and youth represented Knighton on Sunday away at St. Harmon in the Radnorshire Cup with the Robins XI running out winners by 5-2. They will face Builth Wells away in the next round.

Spar Mid Wales League Division 1 - Sat  26th September 2015
Montgomery Town 0-0 Knighton Town

The Robins failed to capitalise on a host of chances in a game they surely should of won. The Robins were down in numbers and even had to see striker Sam Williams start as a goalkeeper which is something his has done before, Knighton did dominate the game and should of been well ahead at half time. Dewi Allen and Gareth Mansell both spurned the best of Knighton's chances and disappointingly The Robins had to settle for a point.

Robins handed Deeside Trip

Knighton Town have been handed another away long trip, this time to Welsh Alliance League side Greenfield who are based in Flintshire. The tie will be played Saturday October 17th.

Robins Back in Spar League Action

This Saturday The Robins are back to domestic league action as they travel over to Montgomery's Clos Tan-y-mur ground. Knighton will be looking for the win to climb the league table as in recent weeks have been in national cup action and have several games in hand on teams above them.

 Reserves looking to climb unbeaten

Meanwhile Knighton Reserves will be looking to keep their unbeaten run going in The Mid Wales League South this Saturday as they entertain Brecon Northcote at Bryn-y-Castell which kicks off at 2:30pm.

Reserves progress so far this season

Player boss Matt Davies is pleased with progress shown by the Robins reserves this season, Davies believes the reserve team is at least good enough to emulate last season's runners-up spot and maybe go one better.

So far results have gone:

Llanidloes reserves at home 1-1 (Jack Weston.)

Builth reserves away - 0-3 (Mark Wozencraft, Billy Hyett (2).

Presteigne Reserves away 2-3 (Mark Wozencraft (2), Billy Hyett 1) St Harmon away 1-3 (Mark Wozencraft 2, Billy Hyett 1)

Rhayader reserves at home 3-2 Mark Wozencraft 2, Billy Hyett.

This leaves Knighton Reserves unbeaten this season, currently 4th in table, 4 points behind leaders Rhayader but with 3 games in hand. Knighton Reserves are home to Brecon Northcote this weekend.

New Signings

Glenn Tolley has re-signed for Knighton Town for the rest of the season. Glenn has a high level of experience playing as a professional in the football league at Shrewsbury Town where he came through their youth academy making his debut in 2003 Vs Hartlepool United. Glenn has also played at Conference level with AFC Telford and  Northwich Victoria as well as Welsh Premier League side Newtown. Glenn featured twice for Knighton in 2013-14.

Former Knighton goalkeeper Stuart Turpin has resigned for Knighton Town, Turpin made 5 appearances during the 2013-14 season.

FAW Trophy 2nd Round - Sat 19th September 2015
Machynlleth 1-2 Knighton Town

Knighton started the game on a very poor surface that was not conductive to playing football on. They found themselves behind after just 5 minutes when giving away sloppy possession in the Mach half and got punished as a routine ball found there striker in space who finished from a tight angle.  The Robins who never seem to do well at Machynlleth grew into the game and were soon on top having numerous set pieces hacked clear from the home team and some excellent saves by their keeper. However dispute putting pressure on Knighton went in a goal down at the break.

The second half started brightly second half with plenty of possession but couldn't get a telling touch on any of the dangerous balls coming in the box Aidey Jones missed a great chance on 60 minutes hitting the bar after good work by Mark Jones out wide. We then received a penalty when Adam Farmer was hacked down in the box. Gareth Mansell stepped up but his penalty was saved. Five minutes later Mansell made up for his miss powering home a header from a good corner. Town went ahead not long after this Mark Jones working himself a shooting opportunity and firing home into the bottom left corner. Town continued to press for a third and should of received another prenalty when Aidey Jones was bundled to the floor when through on goal the ref turned it away though and Jones received his marching orders for his protests to the ref. Town saw out the game with 10 men without any real concern and duly booked there place in the next round and continue their excellent run of form.

Knighton have been handed a very tricky tie against Welsh Alliance League Division 2 side Dyffryn Nantlle Vale who represent the village of Penygroes near Caernarfon, Gwynedd. Nantlle Vale have had a great start to the season only tasting defeat once on the opening game of the season at Prestatyn Sports. Nantlle Vale currently sit in 3rd place in there league which is the equivalent level of Mid Wales League Division 2(4th tier).

JD Welsh Cup 2nd Qualifying Round - Sat 12th September 2016
Knighton Town 2-1 Welshpool Town

Town started the match brightly getting on top of Welshpool from the start and took the lead in the 12th minute player manager Adam Worton beating two players out on the right side of the box before firing home from 18 yards. The Robins continued to threaten and have chances and in the 34th minute increased their lead after Robbie Steele delivered a good cross into the box that Adam Farmer headed against the bar with Sam Williams reacting quickest to tap the ball in from 6 yards.
The Robins looked in total control but gifted Welshpool a goal right on half time as Nick Cadwallader slipped as he went to clear the ball and took down a Welshpool forward in the process giving away a penalty which was duly converted.

The second half was much the same with Town in control but failed to add to there lead by creating some excellent chances with some fine flowing football. Nick Cadwallader did have to be alert on 80 minutes and made a great save after a well struck shot by the Welshpool winger. Town saw out the remainder of the game and booked there place in the first round proper for the first time since 2008.

Spar Mid Wales League Div 1 - Sat 5th September 2015
Knighton Town 4-2 Aberearon

Knighton started brightly considering alot of first team were missing and got on top of the game early and scored through a solid Danny Ives header after 15 mins. On 25 mins Danny Ives struck again from 18 yards with a good strong strike into the bottom corner. The Robins controlled the game with periods of possession and chances throughout the first half but went in at half time with the score 2-0. The second half Knighton went further ahead extending the lead to 3-0 as Mark Jones finished with a good header after an excellent cross by Sam Williams. Aberaeron did pull one back after a strong free kick was parried back out by Nick cadwallader and they reacted first to fire home from close range . We then made a fast counter attack which resulted in sam Williams blasting home from 18 yards into the top corner . Aberaeron then got reduced to 10 men soon after as there frustrations boiled over . They did pull one more goal back after a scrappy goal mouth scramble . Town saw out the remaining ten minutes with minimal trouble and should have really added to there tally with a few good chances going begging. Its been a difficult period for Knighton unlucky not to get a point league leaders Llandrindod, suspensions for Adam Worton and Adam Farmer and injury to last seasons top scorer Connor Bird. Oliver Richards, Dave Exall, Jonny Samuel were also all missing.

Spar Mid Wales League Div 1 -  Wed 19th August 2015
 Llandrindod Wells 2-1 Knighton Town

A very poor first half showing in a scrappy game saw  Knighton going down to a goal down and to 10 men  after 25 minutes.  Adam Farmer was sent off for bringing down the last man and Llandrindod took the lead from the penalty spot. It was maybe a dubious decision but Knighton's spirit held firm for the rest of the half battling hard with 10 men.

The second half Knighton improved with several chances and lots of pressure on Llandrindod's back line with the Robins attacking down the infamous slope. That pressure finally paid over with 5 minutes left on the clock with a Mark Jones strike from a freekick. Alas there was to be a twist in the tale as the Robins found themselves down to 9 men immediatley after the goal with player manager Adam Worton deemed to have been over celebrating and kicking the ball away. This then found Knighton under pressure to hold on to a point instead of gunning for a winner. Then deep into stoppage time Llandrindod struck a late winner during a goal mouth scramble virtually the last kick of the game.

FAW Welsh Cup 1st Qualifying Round Central -  Sat 22nd August 2015
 Knighton Town 4-0 Kerry

Knighton stormed into the next round of The Welsh Cup with an impressive performance against Kerry at Bryn-y-Castell. The Robins dominated precedings from start to finish defending well with Kerry failing to test young Knighton keeper Harry Reakes. The first goal came after 15 mins Jonny Samuel with a superb shot from 20 yards out. The Robins inflicted at let of pressure on the Kerry defence and the only surprise was it was only 1-0 at half time. HT 1-0 second half continued with the same as the first half with Knighton again in plenty of possesion and putting pressure on the visitors. Kerry were just looking to limit the score and sitting very deep hoping to counter attack. Mark Jones put The Robins 2-0 up the with some good work out wide by Gareth Mansell supplying the assist. Oliver Richards then got the next with a superb clipped lob past the past the on coming Kerry keeper and indeed Richards grabbed his second and his 4th of the season rounding off a good team move with a neat finish from 8 yards.

Spar Mid Wales League Div 1-  Wed 19th August 2015
Knighton Town 2-3 Hay St. Mary's

Last years two promoted clubs went head to head at The Bryn-y-Castell showground in which turned out to be nail biter. The first 20 mins was both sides cancelling each other out, Hay took the lead on about 25 mins when they broke in middle of midfield and fed there lively winger who drove into the box and produced a good save from Jake Woodhouse with his legs but the rebound fell to Hay striker Jack Biggs who finished from close range for the only goal in a tight first half.  The second half kicked off saw Knighton take the game to Hay by playing a more attacking formation, and a couple of good saves from the Hay keeper kept there league intact, Knighton got caught with a sucker punch on the hour mark with a Hay central defender Matt Croose nodding in home from close range following a corner. Knighton sought a way back into the game following the introduction of Sam Williams and Lee Sutton. This resulted in sustained pressure on the Hay goal with there keeper producing a number of fine saves and staunch defending from there impressive centre halves, again against the run of play The Robins conceded a sloppy 3rd scored by Matt James.  Disappointed Knighton again rallied to pull back two goals to make it  a nervy end for the away side. Fist Gareth Mansell tested the Hay Keeper which was saved but Oliver Richards latched on to the rebound to score. Lee Sutton then headed Knighton's second with second left but it was not enough in the end to get anything from the game. The Robins unusually lacked any urgency and tempo to the game in which Hay capitalised and probably on balance of play deserved the 3 points.

The game will take place on Saturday 19th September at 2pm.

Spar Mid Wales League Div 1-  Sat 8th August 2015
 Llanidloes Town 2-3 Knighton Town

A great start to the new campaign from Knighton with a 3-2 thriller at Llanidloes Town's  Victoria Park. The game started with Llanidloes on front foot with there wing backs being prominent and threatening, but after 20 minutes The Robins started to get a foothold through the middle up front, starting to create chances and getting some good free kicks in good positions. Knighton took the lead when Corin Jones put a lovely ball into the penalty area causing havoc, which came off numerous heads leading to Oliver Richards scoring. Llanidloes immediately replied through Elliot Jones bustling his way through to slot home. Connor Bird scored right on half time following a good move which seen us work our way up from defence with Mark Jones setting up Bird slotting home.

The second half saw Connor Bird who injured his knee being replaced with Harry Worton.  Knighton dominated proceedings, even more so when when the home side had a player sent off during a period where tackles were starting to fly in from both sides. It was against the run of play Llanidloes equalized from a deep cross which eluded everyone and left in the opposing Llanidloes player to nod into a empty net which was a very poor goal to concede. Knighton continued to press hard searching for a winner as the Llanidloes team started to tire in the final third of the game. A tireless run from Mark Jones earned The Robins a penalty which was confidently dispatched by ex Llanidloes man Gareth Mansell to go 3-2 up. With 15 minutes left Knighton saw the game out quite comfortable but  Jake Woodhouse did pull off a fantastic save near the end to make sure he kept his side lead intact. 3-2 full time.
